Print competitions will be gradually phased in. We will have this “phase in” at the end of the
meeting after our monthly DPI competitions. Initially we will be self judged by club members for
the purposes of scoring only, to establish the higher tier vs lower tier. There will be no runoffs as
we have done in the past. Runoffs were the process used to select the “Print of the Month”,
“Awards” and “Honorable Mentions”. These were sort of our first, second and third place
awards. Instead we will have an initial discussion among the judges to determine the best and
the near best. The best will be advanced to CACCA for more formal judging and awards. During
the discussion among the judges, outside questions by club members will be answered and if
there is another image that someone might think should be included among the top scoring, it
could also be brought up for discussion. Perhaps a judge did miss something. We want to
ensure everything is properly considered.
Initially the images do not have to be mounted unless desired. DO NOT be shy about bringing in
images to be seen by other eyes. This works as a great learning tool.
We believe that in the past while members might have intended to submit their image for
individual competition, they might have held back because of mounting requirements. Especially
if you have never fully prepared an image according to the requirements listed in the website, it
might be daunting. So we’re not making this a requirement at this time.
To encourage as much participation as possible, the club will have a cork board with clips to
hold the unmounted images for scoring. Of those images which are determined to be the best
will be the ones recommended for submission to CACCA. For those, we will mount those prints
at the end of the meeting so they’ll be prepped and ready to send to CACCA. The CACCA
sizing requirements are as follow:
● “Small Print'” areas shall not exceed 11 by 14 inches. All “Small Prints” are to be
mounted on an 11 by 14 inch mount board.
● “Large Print'” area shall not exceed 16 by 20 inches. All *Large Prints” are to be
mounted on a 16 by 20 inch Prints cannot extend beyond the edge of the mount.
So werecommend that your prints be trimmed in advance to a size that will facilitate mounting
to these specs. It’s often best to leave a bit of room around the edge to accentuate the image,
but this isn’t a requirement.
For the next several months (or until we run out) the boards will be free. We want everyone to
participate!!
Depending on the amount of interest, the competition can evolve to previous pre pandemic
levels, or, just be maintained as a time for critiquing and learning. It will be what club members
would like to see.
